"Katrina from Inhabitat Interiors provided assistance in selecting the various interior components, for the renovation of our family home, as we were finding the selections of all the little, bits and pieces extremely overwhelming. Katrina was marvellous, extremely knowledgeable, listened to "our vision" and explained to us how we could best execute the style we had in mind. Katrina was patient, methodical and professional throughout our meetings and was so very helpful. We could not recommend Katrina more highly and are so thankful to Katrina for her wonderful and sound advice."

PROJECT SALT HOUSE, LORNE

"Katrina’s first project with us was helping us create a beautiful children’s bedroom for our son and daughter when we moved to our new home in the Netherlands. Despite the distance, it was incredibly easy working with Katrina on this project and we were so pleased with the result. Later, we purchased our holiday house in Lorne and knew immediately that we wanted Katrina to help us create a beautiful and practical interior for our home that would be our Australian base when we visited as well as a holiday let.

Our brief for Salt House was to create a visually beautiful space that is in keeping with the surrounding environment, practical, comfortable and interesting. The house came partially furnished so this also needed to be taken into consideration with the design. The mood boards Katrina put together were stunning and incorporated each piece of furniture that existed in the house - nothing went to waste. The accessories, artworks and furnishings she selected were perfect and came together beautifully.

Both of our projects with Katrina have been carried out long-distance; however communication via email and Face Time was efficient and easy (great fun!) and the whole process from consultation, design and installation was seamless. We would certainly work with her on future projects."

GIRLS BEDROOM, E-DESIGN

"I approached Katrina to assist me with my 2 1/2 year old daughter's bedroom design.

My problem was that I needed some inspiration and guidance on selecting age appropriate items that complimented the style of the home, which is 70’s minimalist.  Katrina created two mood boards along with product selections, shopping list and styling notes.  This was very easy to interpret and I was instantly inspired to adopt the design.   I was very happy with the attention to detail Katrina showed with regard to scale and size of the existing space.  I especially loved the products suggested and felt that Katrina exceeded my expectations with creative solutions."

"Katrina has an eye for sourcing unique items and mixing these with existing pieces.  I love how she came up with combinations I would never have thought of myself, and through considering functionality as well as personality, the space just works so much better.  The kids love their new rooms!"

INTERIOR & EXTERIOR COLOUR CONSULT, MALVERN

"We were looking to repaint our heritage house inside and out and Katrina helped us with the colour design.  We had a general idea of what we were looking for but there are so many shades of every colour imaginable.  Katrina helped us piece it all together - out with the bland beige and in with the new more eye pleasing colour scheme.  She simplified the process for us, and ensured we picked the right colours for the right application.  She was patient with us but guided us through and we are very pleased with the results, it has certainly increased the value of our home.  We would recommend Katrina, she has a good eye, knows what works and what doesn't - and we are very happy with the result."

MARTIN AVE RESIDENCE, LAKE WENDOUREE

"Katrina Walkenhorst is an interior designer/stylist with a high level of professionalism, and an innate sense of design and style.  Her advice is given with grace and integrity, which instils a high level of trust in her work immediately.  Katrina’s interior design advice has included, so far:

  1. Revision of our dining/kitchen/lounge open area, fine tuning and streamlining a modern and contemporary layout.  A major makeover wasn’t required, as Katrina was able to work with our original design in a very clever way, adding and deleting furniture and design concepts to create a level of sophistication that was missing.  Katrina liaised with all homeware/furniture/trades professionals in a very professional manner;

  2. A pick up and drop off shopping experience, where she took me on tour, and I was able to visit the furniture/homeware shop fronts in Melbourne, to touch and feel the products she was recommending.  This experience always confirmed her recommendations were the right ones;

  3. Provision of highly practical and knowledgeable advice in relation to window dressings. Katrina liaised with the window furnishings business, and again invited me to visit their showroom, and touch and feel the fabrics, and see examples of the products recommended;

  4. Design of joinery to build a ‘library wall’ in our second living area.  Katrina took great care in understanding how we live our lives in our home, and incorporated this into the design, including a desk space for our son to set up a study nook, where I could keep an eye on him! and a television nook that could be hidden away, to create a quiet, reflective space when needed!
