FRENCH PROVINCIAL LAUNDRY |
PROJECT LYONBANK
The Brief
The owner of this grand Tuscan meets French Provincial country home in the Daylesford area engaged Inhabitat Interiors to refurbish and re-design the laundry as she felt it didn't function optimally and wished to update the aesthetics.
What we did...
After assessing the flow of the entire back area, a new configuration was developed. The opening to the rear passage was increased, letting more light through to the rear space, and a large storage cabinet built down the far end. The entry area was also given a makeover with a mudroom style bench, shelving and hooks incorporated.
The goal was to make the space feel as though it had always been there. Cork flooring was replaced with tumbled travertine stone, and a handpainted finish on the joinery was specified to create a lived-in feel, whilst still feeling bespoke and sophisticated for a grand country home. Simple shaker influenced joinery, wall panelling, pegs and ledge were incorporated.
How does the design contribute to the resident's way of living?
Reconfiguring the layout of the space and incorporating new and specific storage designed to store the large clutter such as horse blankets and gardening tools, makes the space easier to navigate and functional. Removing the clutter of everyday objects makes the room feel calmer and more enjoyable to spend time in when doing daily chores. The owner loves the space for its new practicality but also because it allows her to display her treasured collections and items that personalise the space for her. She also loves the tactility of the flooring, bench and laundry sink and taps. The mudroom area in particular brings order to the entryway and is a joy to come home to.
